Both Elias Fritz and Valentina were born in  Langenbrand, Germany. They were also married in Langenbrand, Germany. They came to this country along with Valentina's father Valentine Merkel and his family on the ship "Splendid" which left Germany on the 9th of Nov. 1851 and arrived in New York 10 Dec.1851.
